FORUM NOTICE Forum Software Upgrade Coming Soon -- READ

Forum Boss

Administrator
We are working on a major Forum software upgrade.

We have to do this because the current software version is no longer supported by the developers. No choice in other words.

We have spent a LOT of time and money to keep the format as identical as possible.

We have spent a LOT of time and money to keep the features you like, such as the trader history.

When the new software arrives, hopefully in a few days,
Here is my request to all members:

BE SILENT for a week

-- Do NOT Start threads about the software change

-- Do NOT send PMs

-- Do NOT send emails

-- Do NOT make wise-crack or angry "WTF" Posts

In other words, PLEASE BE PATIENT. We will be working night and day. The new version does work -- it is being used on Snipers' Hide and Long Range Hunting now.

However, we know there will be some glitches. This is inevitable. And yes, we can test, and test, and test some more. But we won't/can't see all the issues until we go live.

I expect some things will not be right.

We know for a fact that some of the buttons will be in different locations, and there will be a learning curve.

Please know our programmers have worked VERY hard to keep things as you like them. The software challenge was significant, with many essential add-ons that work very differently.

But the way you can help is just being patient. Complaints, PMs, emails, angry threads will only demand more Admin time and make it MORE difficult to de-bug the new software.

Yes we have tested this for MANY WEEKS in a separate domain, but there is no way to know how it will really work with hundreds of simultaneous users until we actually go live. So be patient, let us do our job.

The good news is that Phase 2 should (hopefully) allow us to make a transition to secure HTTPS, which will help with some browsers.

And please, it is pointless to post "if it ain't broke don't fix it". We ran this as long as we could. The issue is that the company that makes/maintains the Forum software doesn't support what is running now.

Appreciate all you do to maintain this forum. Software updates are just a fact of our computer life.....

Hey boss,

I think you made the wrong move. Might have been better to let them bleat, then cull the herd. You don't need them anyway.

i predict at least one of my old machines will not run the new version. but it's my problem, not the forum's. i am running an old version of firefox on a linux notebook, and about the ONLY site it can communicate with right now is this one. haha. and no, can't update firefox cuz the o/s version is unsupported and machine is too entrenched anyway.

so, i predict there will still be some squawkers - even with the heads up.

otoh nobody will hear them because:

"Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s).

(Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)"

Anyone making WTF posts after all the work you put into this site needs booted anyway. Thanks for the best site on the internet.

I appreciate all you do running this site. You do a great job.

Things will work out if everyone will give you some time and breathing room.

Thanks,

Steve Nicholas

this is a great site and will only be more so in the future. Point anyone who complains to the various iterations and of laptops, operating systems, cell phones...we eventually adapt to the inevitable progress and figure out how to make it functional, questioning (at some point in time), how did I ever get by before? Transition is transition. Get over it. Software evolves.

Thanks for letting us know. Not worried here, my computer kung fu isn't all that great anyhow. Always cussing my laptop.
