Fort Benning Update

First day of Fort Benning and John's introduction to USA Shooting Nationals is in the books. God it is hot on the smallbore range and some incredible shooters. Again I wanted to update all of you on his progress but I kinda also wanted to explain what John's goals were. This is the best going for a national championship, John has had a smallbore (thank you again) for 6 months, this is his first National, first 3x40, first 50m event. So last night we set down and made goals taking in consideration of that & nerves, heat, ect. He needed a mark to go after.

Today's top shooters were 1170s, incredible considering I'm suffering in the heat in shorts. John's goals were to not be last, we thought he could hit 1000, were aiming for 1040. He fatigued toward the end in standing but even with a poor standing he hit 1056. So for us we are happy. He wants to finish stronger in standing tomorrow but we are both happy with today.

I know it's not up to TZARS draughts numbers, but I believe it was a good start, and watch out in a few years. Give this kid a coach and a little time and he will be a force to deal with.

So adopted godfathers and godmoms here is your kids introduction to national level smallbore. IMG_20190621_093415.jpg IMG_20190622_103703.jpg

Welcome to the South!
I was shooting Friday/Saturday (not anything like what John is doing) about 30 miles west of Benning.
It has been a hot and muggy couple of days. I am Alabama born and raised and this is typical weather for this time of year but it still gets to us too.
It appears John is progressing well. When he gets to the point where progress happens at a much slower pace that he desires the going will get tough. His drive determination and your love and support are the things that do and will matter most of all.
I wish only the best of life for you both.

You set a goal. You met and exceeded the goal. Now on to more training, more experience and better performance. He’s tasted competition at world class level. There will be no holding him back.
Thanks Rifle Woman. Several people have asked how long has he been shooting smallbore and I will say he has had the gun 6m and practiceing for little over 4 months their mouths drop. Everybody has been supportive with several coaches have spoken to us. Other than it being so hot it's been a very good experience.

We even talked tonight about ongoing goals going into camp and the NRA, but being realistic in his progression. I don't want him to think he is going from today to 1170s in a few months. Mostly it's been a releaf to get his first national under his belt.

Thank you all for your help.
