Forster seater dies.

A while back some one started a thread about difficulty seating bullets and asking if he should use lubricant.

Well, I and a friend down in Australia have Forster micrometer seating dies and have had some trouble with seating repeatability. My solution, based on an insert in the bulletin, was to use a torque wrench to ensure each bullet was seated to the same length,
Without the wrench, I had up to 4 thou slop in seating depth. And, I set up by Forster's directions.
My friend noticed the inner sleeve would not extend all the way into the die body as the spring would coil bind. He ground off some spring meat on both ends of the spring till the inner would extend a few thou into the outer cylinder. I followed suit and we set up the die differently. I lowered the die till there was just enough space to insert a bullet between the die and the case. This allows good feel for the seating force.
Now, I get sub-fractional thou repeatability seating bullets. Now I get all the set point adjustability and repeatability this fine die is capable of!
If you have this problem, a replacement spring is available from Forster, "M-30 return spring for seater and micrometer dies."

That was me. Forster sent me the spring. I have not installed it yet. I'm turning that die into a pointer anyway. Thanks

I have a solution. Get rid of the damn things and don't buy any more. I'm dumping mine as fast as I can.

I converted mine to a Whidden pointing die. It seems to work well at that.
