Forster power case trimmer????

For trimming large numbers of cases I bought a Forster Power case trimmer so that I cold trim them in my drill press. I had problems getting them to trim to a consistent length. My drill press may be the problem. I think that the quill stop that came on the machine is not consistent enough to make the cases the same. Have any of you tried this tool for cutting cases to trim length?

I use it for all of my trimming. I have a Craftsman drill press with the jam nut quill stop on a vertical threaded shaft. Once it is adjusted and i use the same pressure every time i get very good results. I can do about 10 cases per minute.

Yea that is what I thought, both of my drill presses have the dial on the handle that you use to lower quill. I don't think that it is repeatable. When I used it last the lengths of cut cases were all different. I am not sure if it is worth trying to get a drill press like yours with the all thread and jamb nuts.

I have one set up on a floor standing drill press for trimming .223 brass, it also has the Forster three way trimmer that trims, chamfers and de-burrs. I bought a second small bench top drill press but I had the same problem with control. The drill stop arrangement wasn't good enough to control length. After that I found an older Delta bench top in an equipment auction. Well built older used equipment is my suggestion, used drill presses are pretty easy to find.

I went from the drill press to using the drill press as an upright lathe so to speak and bought the "Little Crow" brand. Works for me.

I bought the Little Crow WFT2, the one with the interchangeable inserts, awhile back and hands down it is the best trimmer I've ever used and for doing large batches of brass, they are amazingly fast.

The Little Crow trimmer is nice and does a fast and accurate trimming, BUT . . . for saving more time, I really like the Giraud Tri Way Trimmer as it not only does what the Little Crow does, but it also chamfers and deburrs at the same time.

I have an old Walker-Turner drill press and use the Forster power trimmer with the 3 way Forster cutter. Never had any issues with trim length, but the jam nut depth stop is the most reliable type of stop.

The jam nut is the way to go , mine is a newer delta that has the other type of depth stop. Walker Turner made excellent machinery, I have one of the shapers that they made and it has threaded micro adjust on the fences.

I stopped using the trimmer on mine a long time ago and bought a Wilson. What a difference!! The Forster neck turner attachment is even worse. Bought one K&M for each tight neck caliber, never change it.

I tired the Little Crow WFT but it was not for me. Every case I trimmed had lots of swirling marks around the brass from the bushing it sits in. I only trimmed about 25 and couldn't take the markings on the case any longer. I bought a Wilson and will not change again.

The WFT did an excellent job of trimming the case to length, but the case markings were terrible. I tried it in a drill press and then switched to a drill, same results.

Having used a Wilson Micrometer Case Trimmer for some time I decided to look into a multitude of trimmers to see if there was something better and/or that could save me some time as trimming cases involved a lot of time in my overall procedure for prepping cases. I considered the Little Crow trimmer but then came across the Giraud Tri-Way trimmer, which not only trims the case mouth, but also deburrs and chamfers the mouth at the same time. Doing those three things at once, under power, really saved me a great deal of time. And it does it with great accuracy and consistency. While my Wilson trimmer does a good accurate job, my Tri-Way does just as well and saves me a great deal of time.

Wish they’d do the Triway in 284 and 6br.... the bench mounted unit runs about $1000 all up to my door in OZ..
