Forster 6mm Dasher

I have a Forster 6mm Dasher sizer die. But I can only use it with my Frankford M-press. If I use it in either of my RCBS presses (Rebel and Summit) it will not resize the shoulder enough. Even using the Frankford I have to bump the shoulder 4 thousandths to make the cases fit a LE Wilson chamber gauge fit correctly. Otherwise the cases stick out. On the RCBS presses, I can't size enough to fit the chamber gauge.

Toss the case gauge use the rifle chamber, you may get into excessive negative length on shoulders and start having case separation at .200 line, fire a case knock out the primer only rechamber the fired case if it closes ok then only size it .001 the case gauge will have you scratching your head...you prolly don't have bump gauges...you need bump gauges to size the brass close to your chamber dimensions.I think....go into the search and read up on sizing brass to chamber, every chamber can be differeent

I've never owned a case gauge. For pistols I use the 'plunk' test. For rifles I strip the bolt and fit it to just close freely in the chamber.

FWIW, I have a Howa in 6.5 with a short chamber. Factory Peterson brass would not seat in the chamber. Resizing with std die (Hornady and Lee) they would not fit. I had to shave off the bottom of the size die a bit before they would fit in the chamber. No, never fired factory ammo in it.

Hi Bob. The guys are correct in ditching the chamber gauge. In addition you need equipment to measure cartridge length base to shoulder. I highly recommend that you send a thrice fired case to Harrell's and have a full length sizing die made that matches your rifles chamber. Do a search here for info on using the "stripped bolt method" to get the correct amount of shoulder bump when setting up your resizing die.

Is Harrell's still in business?

I don't have to bump the shoulder on my Dasher - and I resize on a Dillon 550. I think that there's something awkward happening here. - I have Alpha brass/ Alpha reamer. LE Wilson FL die/269 neck

Remove the firing pin and ejector, now chamber a fired case (deprimed), this should usually allow the bolt to drop freely. If so then sequentially add layers of scotch tape to the base, measuring case base to shoulder datum (Hornady comparator works fine, as do others) with each new layer , and test for free bolt drop. When adding another layer of scotch tape (1 layer is about 0.002” thick) prevents free bolt drop, measure that and call it your chamber dimension (headspace). Bump your shoulders to within about 0.002” of the chamber dimension. I have the same Forster die, it should do fine. Harrel’s or similar could do even better by matching your chamber. I use the Harrel’s with a bushing for resizing.
