Forster, 6 Dasher FL Sizing Die?????????

Just received my Forster FL Sizing die for my new Dasher on Fri. Tried sizing some cases that had been fired three times and to my dismay, the new die does not size anything. My chamber is a .272 no turn and I'm using the old brown box Lapua Brass, unturned. Inside neck dimension of fired case measures, .244, when case is run through die, the only dimension that changes is the inside neck dimension, which goes from.244 to .243, or bullet diameter. Not enough tension to hold the bullet. I was wondering, if anyone else has Dasher FL Die from Forster and how it's been working. I have to determine if I just got a bad die or if Forster has a problem.

I made custom FL Dasher dies for customers until Forster started selling them. My reamer has a .274" no-turn neck, and the Forsters work very well with brass fired in my chambers.

Thanks for the quick reply Dennis. I think the dimensions for the body part of the case may be O.K. as my Brass just does not seem to be growing. The last loads I shot were a pretty stiff 34.1 Gr. charge of RL-15 behind a 105 Berger VLD. My cases still just fall in and out of my chamber perhaps I'll just continue to NK size until they get snug, whenever that may be. I have 3 Cases that have been fired 5 times with stiff loads that I was planing on sending to Harrell's to have him make me a FL bushing die but even these cases are still at reamer dimension. Either Lapua Brass is as tough as nails or my gunsmith is a wizard, or maybe a combination of both.

Sounds like the expander is opening your cases. I have a forster die that i no longer use and i know the neck diameter in the die is a .261, so the die should defintely size your neck. But if you are using the expander ball, that might be what is opening your neck. Try it without the expander to see. If the die is unaltered, it should pull it down. However, for a no turn neck, it will pull it down too much.

What you can do is send the die back to Forster to modify the neck to your specified diameter. Probably a .268-.269. After that, ditch the expander.

Another option would be to purchase a Redding Type S Dasher die. Robert Whitley on this board usually stocks them. I am currenty using one and it works great with my chamber.

As for Harrell, he is not making them yet. I keep calling to see if there is anything new with Dasher die production, but get the same story, "hope to have them made soon"

Ridgeway, already thought of that, I completely removed the stem and re sized the case, inside Nk dimension is still .243.

Larry, my friend has a brand new Forster Dasher die, I'm going over tomorrow with some fired cases and we are going to see if his does the same thing. If it does, I'll probably send the die back to Forster as it's brand new but of no use to me as it is. Don't really want to spend a hundred bucks for the Redding die since the Harrell is only 60 and I like them much better.

Harrell said they are looking into making a Dasher die, but nothing yet. No eta on them either.

I have several of Harrells dies, but there all bushing dies. When I got a Forster die w/o the bushing for my 6.5 x47 my runout issues were solved. I have custom die from my smith but it uses bushings and I can't seem to chase down the runout. I want if they can do for my Dasher what they did for my other barrel. But they seem to be sold out everywhere.

Tried my friends new Dasher die and it worked perfectly, definitely a problem with my die. Contacted Forster and they were very concerned as well as gracious. I'm sending the die to them with three fired cases, they assured me they would replace my die with one that works properly as well as try and determine what caused the initial problem. After spending 31yrs. in production, I know sometimes, no mater how close an eye you keep on QC, an anomaly slips by. I'm more than satisfied with Forster's, action and will continue to purchase their fine equipment.
