Forming 6 XC cases from 6 Remington brass

Wow. That would take a LOT of trimming.
I used a 6XC F/L die to form 6SLR cases from 243 brass. The die was screwed out .122" from shell holder contact. Actually it was screwed out more, then adjusted in using the Hornady headspace tool.
I guess you could 'waste' a couple to see if it could be done. I would start by trimming almost all of the neck off the case first.

I thought they used 22-250 lapua cases to make that cartridge?

They do - you can. And when you run 22-250 brass thru a 6XC die they come out looking a little funny until they are fired. No trimming is necessary.
I believe a 243 case could be used to form 6XC, but you would wind up with some very long necks that would need considerable trimming.
Zll you really need to do is just expand the 22-250 cases up to 6mm, jam the bullet and shoot em, 6XC.

A couple of things. When you run a 22-250 case through a 6XC die, you are going to get a mushroomed shoulder. That is normal. It will fit into the chamber and fireform just fine. I suggest you use an expander mandrell to neck up to 6mm.
If you use Lapua cases, after the first firing, you will have a terrrible donut at the neck/shoulder. you will need turn the necks to loose the donut. My fireformed Lapua 22-250 cases gave me an overall case length of about 1.875-1.880.
Winchester cases will not give you a donut.

I have made them from Win, Frontierand Remington with no issues, but some of the case lengths are short like Kmart posted. My Norma brass is longer.
I made the 22-250 brass with minimal deformation, but the ones that were totally deformed still shot incredible while fire forming. The Tubb sizing die has been great.

Sorry, i was thinking of the 240NMC, the shoulder is a lil further forward on it over the 6XC. Don't know what i was thinkin! Either way, a new guy should just the brass through the sizing die.
