Forming 6 Dasher?????

I know this gets beat to death here, but i was curious as to this spin on case forming....

A while back i spoke with a member that was forming his brass to 22 Dasher and shooting varmints.

He would then neck them up to 6 Dasher and turn the necks for shooting comps.

Any thoughts on this method, i may experiment, it sounds like it has merit.....

Like false shoulder off the 6 br case and neck down to 22? I don't see why that method wouldn't work. I've read guys are using them to shoot 600 yard matches to fire form. Seems like they are plenty accurate with a 6mm bullet from the start.

If you was hydroforming, would you want to turn before or after? If you turn before forming, would you turn the entire neck?

If you turn before you have to use a 257 mandrel to expand. If not the case won't seal in the die. Matt

Exactly! Then after turning, it would take more strikes on the plunger pin to hydro form correctly. The more strikes means less consistent on how the brass forms within the Hydro die.

I turn for a 268 neck before forming and have never had an issue with the case neck sealing. Have done at least 1500 cases this way. I turn pretty much all of the br neck so that the transition ends up in the shoulder of the dasher and works great. The only seal issue I have with the hornady die is with the stem of the die and I run a little imperial every 3-4 rounds on the shaft.

A .268 NECK doesn't take that much off a case when turning. Matt

Ray,

I have hydro formed a few cases, I just put them in the die and swung the hammer.......:D

I turned them after, not sure if this is correct, but that`s how I went about it.....o_O

Since I`m going to build a .22 Dasher for splodin`vermin anyway, I thought this sounded like a viable thing to try.....

Lot`s of way`s to skin this cat.....
