forming 22BR cases with Lapua brass

I have a 22 BR with a 244 neck and I am trying to form some brass. Have a redding 6BR type "S" full length sizing die and a bushing size 243. When I try to form the brass the neck just deforms or crimps up. I am using sizing lube. Any suggestions? Have just ruined about 8 cases. Thanks

jheger: I had the same problem, crushed & destroyed a virgin Lapua 6BR case. Now do the initial neck reduction with a "standard" 22 BR FL sizing die/ Redding. After the first "squeeze-down", open up the neck with the carbide floating button, load & fire, there will be some run-out). After that all loading is with the neck bushing die. Have never lost a case since, and the runout is not present for all loadings thereafter. Works for me.:)

Yep,
You need the standard full length sizing die and if you are going to turn the necks do it better to do it before you neck down.

I start the neck sizing in the seating die first.,But I use forester dies.) When I run them through the seater it starts the neck down about 1/4 inch, then I run them through the neck sizing die, and that finish them off with a small donut at the neck base. I then fireform the brass, and neck trim them.

To go from a 6 BR to 22 BR, I run the case through a Redding full length 22 BR die. After it has been fired, I use a Forster Bushing Bump Die to do the necks. Different size bushings for my 6 BR and 22 BR cases with the same die. Never have a problem.
