For drill users who turn, polish and trim

You got me more curious so I took this chuck apart again and inspected it closer. I found places where the pieces were too close together. A bench block and plastic face hammer got the tolerances back in line. Had to smooth up the snap ring a bit too. Looks like it’s going to work correctly now.
Thanks for your post, it got me to thinking about it again and it looks like I got it fixed.

Glad to hear it. If the three jaws are actuating freely, they will center the case and fit into the groove as the ring is tightened. There is a range of adjustment that you'll do to properly grip different cases. you'll get a feel for how much to loosen the ring when you drop the finished case which will leave the jaws loose enough to put in the next one.

You won't usually have as perfectly centered case as some of the mo-spendy tools, but you don't really need it when your other appliance is hand held, and your rpm's are low to medium. jd

My center spindle has a high spot right in the center right behind the 3 jaw’s providing a centering guide for primer pockets. Don’t know if it was designed that way or if is a machining error that just worked out well. Anyway it does what I expected it to do now.
