How fast is that going? 296 was very slow in my 41 mag with a 8 3/8” barrel.Sierra's 240gn. hollow cavity and 24gns. of 296 does me fine, but nothing is as good as GOOD shot placement.
Barnes XPB. Nuff saidI want to reload deer and bear. what would be the best bullet for 44Mag.
Don't see they offer it?Keep it simple and just use a Nosler Partition.
I have never known them to make any partitions for "handgun" rounds. I can't think of a reason I would want them either.Don't see they offer it?
At one time, Nosler had a 44 cal. (.429") 250 grain bullet. Loaded in a 444 Marlin, they were good as gold on several whitetails, hogs and a couple of bears.I have never known them to make any partitions for "handgun" rounds. I can't think of a reason I would want them either.
I know for sure they made 260grn partition either.451 or .452. I’ll have to check. But I bought a few boxes from Nosler direct for my S&W 460.I have never known them to make any partitions for "handgun" rounds. I can't think of a reason I would want them either.
I reload the 240s. I have not shot deer with my Super Redhawk, but the Marlin Lever action I have has killed 20 plus deer with that load. Longest was 162 yards, stoned it. Deer never knew what happened. That Marlin is nice and sweet, all the kids favorite gun. Over the years it has stacked them. Shoot almost the same bullet but a 45 cal out of a sabot for 50 cal muzzleloader. My sons have taken 3 bull elk and one bear. Velocity is about the same.I just used a 200 gr Hornady XTP running at 1400 fps to take a CO mule deer. Hit it on the right side and bullet did not exit the other side. The lung and heart were destroyed. He stumbled for about 15 seconds before hitting the ground. The chest cavity was full of blood. Shot was taken at about 10-15 yards with a Smith and Wesson 629 with a 6" barrel.
While the deer did die quickly, I think I will go with something in the 230-240 grain range next time.
Lyman 429421 240 gr cast hard Keith style SWC driven by 21 grains of 2400. Shot a lot of 19.5/2400 to take the sting out of it. Also, 9 to 12 grains of Unique, if you can deal with the dirt.Elmer Keith load: 250 grain semi wadcutter BHN 15-16 over 19 grains of Alliant 2400.
