Fn spr 308 110 125 grain loads

any guys on here experiment with the lighter 308 bullets like 110 and 125 grainers in the fn spr rifles? I just ordered one with the idea of having it chambered in 6br for a fun 1,2 and 300 yards at my local range. Before I send it out to be rechambered I’d like to try out the light bullets to see what I can squeeze out of the factory barrel. If I can get one of these lighter class bullets to shoot well at speeds up to 3200 FPS I think it could be fun. Low recoil cheap brass smooth fast cycling action with a long barrel life.. what’s not to like.

Sorry I did not record the velocity...A Buddy of mine has a DPMS 308 semi auto I call the "beater" ..It is a nice rifle to run speed drills w out to 300 meters...When I know he is bringing it to the range. I load up a bunch of Sierra 125 grain spitzers...Friggin thing is powerful, easy to control & accurate ...Mike in Ct

Just found my reloading book for 308. It lists 51.5 grains of w 748 for the Nosler 125 grain solid base ballistic tip, Winchester brass and federal 210m primer at 3214fps as an accuracy load. Dammm...

I've had success with the 125 Nosler BT and 40.0 grains of H4895. My purpose was to develop a mild recoil load that would still be effective for deer size game out to 200 yards. This load clocked at about 2600 f/s and grouped in the sub 1 moa range. Haven't taken a deer yet with this load but it should have enough energy out to 200 yards to be effective.

I tried the Hornady 125 SST also and it shot well in the 1 moa range but the Nosler shot better in my Tikka T3.

I had a very accurate and fun to shoot 110g VMAX load using a healthy dose of Benchrest powder. Also shot through my FN SPR.

These little pills were flying over 3,000 FPS and had the recoil of a .234.

Here’s the big downside. They copperd the ever living hell out of my barrel. Loaded up the grooves with copper. Took me forever and a day to get it all out

I never thought copper fouling was a product of the bullets. I always thought it was related to the barrel itself and weather or not you shoot it clean and dry.

chevytruck_83. If your SPR is like mine, don't rebarrel to a high pressure / small primer cartridge like the BRs unless you cost in having a firing pin turn-down/bolt bushing job. I rebarrelled mine to 6.5X47 Lapua and it blanked primers (including tough CCI-450s and BR4s) at any charge much over starting load levels. It was rechambered to 260 Rem and works just fine in that form.

Also, my SPR in both 308 and 260 guises never performed at its best with hot loads. Low and mid pressure range loads produced some stunning 308 groups with the factory barrel, but they'd open right up as I got higher. It still does this with the 260 barrel.

A fine rifle - I'm very fond of mine. (An early example - one of the first 10 imported into Europe - with the all black McMillan A4 stock and flush 4-round detachable box magazine.)

I spoke with short action customs about having it chambered for 6mmbr and that was the first thing they said was to address the firing pin size and make sure it’s straight. I’m definitely going to give the rifle in stock form a chance. I already have a ton of brass, powders and heavier bullets from my trg 22 before it got barreled to 6creedmoor

Exactly the same model as mine.

After 6,000 rounds I sent to off to Short Action Customs, had them true the action, pillar bed it in a McMillan Game Warden stock, kept it .308 in a PROOF carbon fiber barrel and turned it into a deer hunting rig. Hope to get my hands on it by next week.

I run a 125gr tnt at 3050 fps out of an AR10 and a 700PSS, both guns run the same load into 1 ragged hole. Hammers coyotes too, but don't try to save hides.

Just about every group using the 125 tnt had 2 in 1/2”-1/4” then one stray. I almost feel like maybe I need to have it glass bedded to see if it helps. Could be me to of course. I don’t get out like I used to.

125 Nosler BT, WW case, CCI BR primer, 46 grs IMR 4895 runs 3000 fps out of my 21 1/2" barrel 308 Win. Bug holes and just SMOKES deer. Has half the felt recoil of a 150 gr load. This load has shot great in a number of rifles.
