I tried to research this, but found nothing. I have FMJ in 6mm and a small lathe. Has anyone ever tried to make hollow points out of FMJ.

The lead would heat up and go right out the back
I have shot a lot of Nosler partitions, they are not jacketed on the rear.
It has been done with varying degrees of success...BUT IS NOT RECOMMENDED.. There is a danger that an FMJ that has been modified into a soft point or hollow point will have the core shoot out leaving the jacket in the bore. THIS PHENOMENON HAS HAPPENED.
It was done by heaps and heaps of people back in the day when we were shooting 303. The gov used to give out free ammo to those in the FB rifle clubs. The rifle clubs were mainly out in the country and the bulk of members were farmers. So a lot of the ammo was used in hunting pests. It was simply drilled out a bit at the tip. I have never heard of problems from this.
Which Bullet do you have in 6mm that is FMJ? Sierra or speer?

That is because there is a partition That separates the led in the front from the lead in the back.

Just talking here,from a process standpoint.
I have made a few "drill guide" style HP'ers. I think Forster may make one? Whatever... the problem is you don't want to "have to" chuck up,or collet each individual bullet. Too many things will go wrong. This is why "traditionally" HP'ing is done through some sort of guide.
So,learn to make a reamer in the shape of your bullet's nose. Then,when the guide material is in the lathe.... bored,reamed to the nose shape... you drill/ream a through hole. It's all about reducing your setups to the minimum. Once you have a hardened guide,it becomes a whole lot easier.
Not saying to do this.... suggesting it more as a skill builder. By the time you've made a cpl,well finished "guides".... seater stems,bullet tipping,ogive comparator,and a few other accessories are now within your wheelhouse. Find some old,gunsmith books that describe making reamers. I'm a cast bullet junkie,so ho-made reamers and bullet dies are just a fact of life in this pursuit.
