Fluted barrel and barrel block

Im kicking around the idea of a 36" barrel,1.12"diam) in a 6" barrel block. Is it ok to clamp a fluted barrel in a barrel block?

Im not sure if I am going to flute it, if I did it would be to reduce weight to make it easier to carry in the field. Just covering all my bases.

Your concerned about weight and you want to mount a 36" barrel? Hard to have your cake and eat it too, why not just go with a heavy 28" barrel if weight will be a problem.

the idea was for the extra velocity and to be able to set back the barrel at a later date and still be 30" long. I have yet to look into stocks or how much material needs to be around the block for a stiff forend. But I am looking at the verticle split, one half) small block that shehane sells, should be about 1/2"+ less narrow than a horizontal split block. All this is a first for me so thats why I am asking questions. Id like to keep the weight down as much as possible but it is going to weight what its going to weigh. Thanks, Rob
