Floated action

I am curious on what the benifits of floating an action useing a barrel block. Also with a barrel block, is the barrel held in simply by the bearing force of the bolts holding the two side of the block together, or is there more to it?

On of the biggest is that you can tune your rifle by changing the torque on the barrel. Yes it works and works very well. You must have it done at the correct radius with no taper at all if you want it to work correctly.

It's the POOR mans rail gun ;). I like mine very much indeed. They are Bill Shehane's 1 piece Blocks. One of the benefits is that it removes the stress of the barrel weight from the action. You can also use larger Dia. barrels without worrying about action stress.

I dont like the 1 piece blocks. Not saying they dont work or are junk but i like to be able to take it apart and adjust the pressure of it. I dont like to glue anything together.....

Glue ? There's is no glue involved. The block is (for lack of a better term) split longituedinaly then clamped/tightend around the barrel with 4 socket head bolts. The blocks have been on since 2001 (fall) and haven't moved yet (witness marked). I have had 1 of the barrels setback so it has been off and reinstalled, but the others are as installed. The blocks are bedded in the stocks useing pillars and Marine Tex with stainless powder added.

When you say one piece block thats what i think it is. Guess i need to see one. I was thinking that they were like the baer blocks or similar....

The only experiance I have has been with the Shehane blocks so I can't comment on Baer's blocks
