Flex Drive Windage Adjustment Cable

dixieppc

In search of one small hole...
I have been looking at the Bald Eagle rests that have the Flex Drive windage adjustment cable on them. I like that flex drive idea. I already own a benchrest quality front rest with Sinclair's Generation II Benchrest Windage Top. I was thinking that it would be nice to get just the Flex Drive windage adjustment cable from Bald Eagle and attach it to my top (if thread patterns match). So, I emailed Bald Eagle 3 times about this but they just refuse to answer my emails. Does anyone know how to get their hands on one of these flex drive windage adjustment cables?

Regards to all Responders...

Look up shiraz on here and pm him with your needs. He may be willing to sell them to you.

They're doing you a favor. I have their rest with that cable and the cable is the worst part of a very poorly designed and executed windage rest.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the design of my original Lock Haven Bald Eagle standard rests with windage tops (no cable drive), one in aluminum and one cast iron. They may have re-engineered some components to keep the cost down.....but what does one expect when paying the same price point of Caldwell BR rests. You bought the slingshot which was specifically designed for narrow benches found at some high profile match venues-Kelbly's (Super Shoot locale) for one. The down side to that design is that they are not as stable as the standard tripod. Caldwell copied that design more than likely because it looks cool and not realizing they chose an inferior design.

Here is a pic of my original Bald Eagle with a flex shaft that I bought from McMaster Carr along with the knob at the end. Then I made the bracket to fit it to the rest. The support needs to be there as shown to keep the cable from wrapping up on itself. It works great. There was an article here awhile back that told you what all you needed to buy.

The problems with mine have exactly nothing to do with the design of the base, and everything to do with the design and execution of the windage adjustment mechanism.

I had contacted Bullets.com to inquire about what you're seeking to accomplish for an older Bald Eagle rest that I have. I was informed that the original and older designs are different enough from the new ones, whereas the flex shaft would not easily be compatible. I have the newer design flex cable rest as well, and I have had zero issues...I've been very satisfied.

Since starting this thread I have been reading, with interest, everyone's feedback on their experiences with the flex shaft. Before going any further, I'm at least going to have to find out what the thread pattern and size of the adjusting shaft is in my Sinclair Generation II Benchrest Windage Top so I can see if the flex shaft will fit. In order to do that I would have to disassemble the whole top. I have no problem with that because I need to disassemble this complete rest anyway for a good cleaning and then put fresh grease on the dovetail mating surfaces of the windage top. It wasn't operating as smooth this year as past years so a good cleaning was in order.

After 4 hours of cleaning every little bitty part, repolishing and greasing mating surfaces, I got this thing put back together and its running as smoothly as the day it was purchased. So I sit back and look upon what I have done with wonderment and pride and finally say.... you dumb bastard, you forgot to measure the thread pattern!!!!!!
