flat shooting good barrel life

Is there a flat shooting good mpbr, midsized caliber out there, its like having your cake and eating it too, I know.
the 223 has reasonably good barrel life, and is flat, couldn't the whole thing just be scaled up 30% the way browning did from 30-06 to 50 bmg.
could one just use a 308 with about a 90 grain bullet.

The .280 ackley improved, make sure you get the reamer ground to use resized lapua 30-06 brass.

6.5x47 Lapua. Excellent accuracy potential, limited recoil, v.g. barrel life, broad choice of bullets with excellent combination of accuracy & BC.

Depends on your purpose, definition of flat shooting, long range and long barrel life. That is almost an oxymoron. A compromise would be 260, 7mm-08, 25-06, 270, 280, 284, 30-06. In a hunting situation a 7mm, 300, short mag, and a 7mm Remingtom magnum, and 300 win mag may also fit the bill.

What are you trying to accomplish, a 308 Win shooting 175SMK at 2600ish is accurate but not a flat shooter to 1k, a 243 shooting 115DTAC at 3000ish is a flat shooter and accurate beyond 1k, except the 308 will have about 8000 more rounds of barrels life, deciede what your goal is and what your willing to compromise to get there

First, a 90 grain bullet in a 308 would be "flat shooting" for about a hundred yards and then it would fall on it's face. Also, lighter bullets use MORE powder than heavy bullets...you would be shortening up you tube life using more powder.

I would go to a 6BR....shoot to 1K with the 105 class bullets and very good tube life.

Good luck!!

6BR or 6BR imp. Nothing will touch them for accuracy. That will get some fired up. Just look at the long range benchrest records. I have them in 14 tw to 8 tw barrels, shooting 70 gr bullets to 108 gr
