Flash Hole uniformers

Let me start by thanking everyone who has been a great help with everything from load data to equipment. I am looking to buy a flash hole uniformer/reamer. Does anyone make one that I can swap out the cutter between .08 and .06? and if so, is it a decent one? Or is it just better to buy two. On top of that question: is it necc to clean out the hole on lapua brass? --Just to be clear I need the .08 for my 308's and the .06 for the 6.5 x 47---And the last question: I have posted and recieved several good replies here on loading for the 6.5--here is my question--I am not a benchrest shooter and the 6.5 is a new calibur to me. I have noticed that it seems common to load into the lands, coming from the 308 world this is very hard for me to embrace. After reading a lot of reloading manuals warning about excessive pressures when loading into the rifling it is hard for me to embrace it. Could someone here point me to a post explaining this a bit more thoroughly?

Reaming flash holes. The Lapua brass I've worked with over the years has been very uniform. Unlike other brands I've found reaming flash holes in Lapua brass is not necessary. I think a lot of this is just getting some peace of mind. I still clean the primer pockets. I'm sure Sinclair will have a tool for you if you wish, give them a call they'll answer your question. As far as jamming bullets goes "generally" VLD bullets like a jam somewhere between .010 and .020. Non VLD bullets like a jump somewhere between .005 and .020. It has to do with the design of the bullet. Your rifle will tell you what it likes. Your right, jamming a bullet will increase pressure. Start low and work your load up. Aside from the design of the bullet the theory is by jamming a bullet it becomes more concentric with the bore, therefore upon firing its a lined more straight and not offset. Does it work? Depends on what your barrel likes. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Uniforming flash holes will lower your ES, not a lot but enough to make it worth while. I use pin reamers from MSC. And you will see some variation (up to .0015) with factory Lapua 6 BR flasholes.

Well stated Larry :-X :-X :-X :-X

MtTom,

You can change the cutters on the K&M uniformer, they are inexpensive enough to buy one of each and some replacement cutters for less than $100.

In my experience, jr600 is spot on with his numbers and the reasoning behind it. What comes next is specific to MY gun, cut with MY reamers and using My bullets. If I shoot a VLD it's .012 jammed. If it's a Hybrid I jump them .020, this will have you close. You notice that I didn't mention any caliber or particular bullet other than design. That is intentional and where the phrase comes in "The sum total of the pieces, makes the pie".
Good luck on your tuning,
Lloyd

This is what you seek my friend. I have two and they both work perfectly.
