FLASH HEBERT .223 BENCHREST RIFLE

I BOUGHT THIS RIFLE AT AN AUCTION EARLIER TODAY. IT WAS LISTED AS A FLASH HEBERT TURBO .22 LR HOWEVER, IT APPEARS TO BE A .223 BENCHREST RIFLE. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE BARREL TWIST RATE IS. (WILL TRY TO CHECK THAT LATER). THE TRIGGER FEELS LIKE ITS SET AT AROUND 2 OZ. IT IS A RIGHT BOLT LEFT PORT SINGLE SHOT. THE BOLT APPEARS TO BE A REMINGTON BUT THE ACTION APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING OTHER THAN REMINGTON. (VERY HEAVY WALLED ACTION). I HAVEN’T DETERMINED IF IT IS A GLUE IN OR NOT. THE RINGS APPEAR TO BE 1” POSSIBLY CUSTOM MADE.
ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON THIS RIFLE??

What size is the boltface? Will a 223 case fit in the chamber? Thickwalled? is it a sleeved action? What is the outside diameter of the action. Is anything engraved on the barrel or action? More and better pics pls.

Frank

Additional info. The rifle is a 6mm but the bolt face is 0.447 (dont recognize that size). The barrel is fluted. No visible marks on the entire rifle other than a rubber recoil pad with the Browning logo on it. More photos.

Rings are Kelbly , Bolt is not a Remington they never did coned bolts, bolt release looks kinda like an A.M.T.

Kinda looks like a one-off job. I would say the bolt started life in a Remington. Find a gunsmith to look it over - but you may have found a nice rifle there.

Im just amazed that an auctioneer could find a name as "obscure" as Flash Ebert" and then trip on his own barrel identifying a 6PPC as a rimfire 22.

I hope you are satisfied with what you got. it could be a lot of fun

Geez SS that didn’t take long. Great shooting. I’m puzzled as well how someone could sell a rifle that’s supposed to be a 22 LR and winds up being a 6mm? Wonder if that causes issues with the transfer?

Flash was from Midland/Odessa area, he was a great machinist. He passed away several years ago. He used to come shoot Black powder cartridge rifle competition at the Ft. Chadbourne range West of Abilene with us.

I am from Midland and it is my understanding that the particular auction I was at had a number of items from Mr. Eberts shop including this rifle. I assume it was something he built for himself which would explain no barrel markings or serial numbers.
