Fix for RCBS ChargeMaster Link -- Unplug It

Years ago electronic components died from heat, specifically time at temperature. As semiconductors became more prevalent heat killed the high power components and inrush/voltage spikes became the major culprit for lower power components. In today's world most electronic components fail from inrush/voltage spikes but the mean time between failure and cycles to failure is much longer than in the past. Most electronics are more likely to become obsolete than fail. If I lived in an area as described by @Coyotefurharvester I would lean towards shutting off. It is one thing I can control.

I followed advice that I got here from a few of you guys. I bought a 12v battery and the connecting cord from Amazon. A link was provided by one of the posters. The battery seems to work great, and it has an extreme amount of run time. I recharge it once in a while even though it didn't need it.

I don't leave the battery switch "on" when it isn't being used and I do allow the Chargemaster to warm up before calibration. However, I don't really see any difference from when I didn't allow the unit to warm up.

Turn it OFF, remove pan and the platen it sits on and check for powder underneath. Invert to clear if/as necessary. < This catches many out and is wholly responsible for instabilities.
I keep a can of compressed air handy, when i start seeing powder spillage I give the scale and surrounding area a gentle squirt. Its actually one best things I have on my bench. E

Yesterday i loaded 150 rounds. When the sun hit the room in the afternoon i couldn't make it 10 rounds without the tare drifting. Tried unplugging but no help. Before the sun hit the room i loaded like 100 no problem. Ac on that room just gets hot.

Be especially careful of this if you own a Mr. Coffee! (Super trickler)

Guys, it's not that deep. I think people just get carried away. Chargemasters are very durable and not that sensitive. You probably *can* chuck one down the stairs and it will work if you don't crack it open. There's no need to unplug them, keep them plugged in, keep them away from florescent lights, use a power conditioner, a surge suppressor, a battery, or anything else. They're only good to +/- .1 grains, give or take. That's a big range in the scheme of things, and smaller than is generally needed.

Shit I've even knocked my FX-120i off my bench. It was fine - didn't even need recalibration. I think it's been plugged in/turned on for like a year now.

As good as these scales are, they're not that finicky.
