First time with new 17hmr

I have a new Savage bolt 17hmr. (left handed model) After some ring and mount problems (resolved), I took it to the range today. Never had or even fired a 17hmr before.

Lots of wind, and I only have about 25-30 rounds through the gun. (I had a few rounds a week ago..that's when I discovered the ring/mount problem.)

After sighting it in, the last 4 shots were just under 3/8" at 50 yards. WOW! And I wasn't trying that hard. I knew the round was supposed to be accurate but the gun's not even broken in yet...and in heavy wind.

I think I like this!!

You should get that at 100 or maybe 1/2" as well.
Now go shoot @ 200 yds in the wind & you will say where did it hit??...hahaha

My wife and I shoot a lot of 17HMR. We have hunted prairie dogs in Wyoming. Sometimes I check to make sure the wind doesn't blow the bullet back at me. Past about 150 yards it's a crap shoot about where a side-wind will move that bullet. If reasonably calm it's the greatest.

Many kills out to and past 250 yards. Great cartridge ... when it's calm.
