First Time Out With The 6BRA

So I shot a 3x600 reduced to 300 yard F-Class match today. I have not had much time to work with this rifle since I acquired it. Load development has been very minimal. Ended up with 31.5 grs of CFE223 with 105 VLD’s 40 off TP.

The second target the Silver Mountain missed a shot, the MD said that I had a choice, I could shoot another or convert one of sighters. The choice is obvious. Adjusted score ended up being a 197-11X

The third match stayed pretty consistent

I was debating on trying cfe223 in it.

Did you run a pressure test? Where was a good starting spot?

Yes I did do a pressure test. The loads 30.5, 31.0 and 31.5 all went into the same group. So when I had a chance, loaded up some pairs with different seating depths, all with 31.5 grs powder. Starting at 10 off, did 20, 30, 40 and 50 off. 40 and 50 off produced the best results. There wasn’t any vertical with the 40 off and some vertical with the 50 off. So I ran with the 40 off load, that I shot today. I am wondering if I can get it any better

Do You do anything to control the temperature of the ammo ?
It seems the higher temperatures cause the greatest negative affect on ammo.
It’s easy enough to put the ammo in a cooler.
Would this cause the accuracy to suffer ?

Thanks…RR
if you notice from the pics i posted.. that through the morning for each match.. the SD went up a lil.. i kept the ammo covered with a thick towel..

No because I don’t shoot when it 100 degrees anymore (used to In eastern Washington) so I just load to a reasonable level when using it.
It’s mainly in my 223 I use it.

I do have some adjustments loaded in to my kestrel to accommodate 20-80ish degrees to offset speed increase, it’s temps after that where things can get spicy like R17 back in the day.

Currently in my 6BRA I’m using R16, in my old 260 it was at least as stable and H4350 and so far it’s seems it’s quite stable in 6BRA

Interesting. When I was testing CFE223 in my 6BRA (before I found some H4895) my best group was 33.0 gr with an ES of 9 and an SD of 4.7. This was using a 26" barrel, ~0.010 off the lands, velocity was 2893, and there were no signs of pressure.

How did Your on target groups compare with the H4895 ?

That's some great shooting.

On a side note, what kind of stock do you think this guy is shooting? I know nothing about stocks other than bell and carlson.
