First time fireforming - kinda scary

Scary in that the fireform loads averaged .689 from a 22-250AI. Smallest group, all groups were 5 rounds) measured .441. Granted - up here in MN I'm limited to 50yds at the indoor ranges, but itstoo cold to shoot outside!

So - is this normal? Never fireformed before, so I didn't know what to expect. Will the fireformed cases be even more accurate?

You can expect good accuracy out of your fire formed cases if your rifle is shooting that good. I have a 22-250AI-- mine is a one-hole shooter that was also accurate when forming the cases. Sounds like you're going to be a happy camper with your rifle. Good luck!

Quite a few of my AI varmint rifles will shoot fire forming loads so good I now use them in the field instead of just turning them out on the bench.

FF'ing 6XC cases typically is "good enough" to use for 200-yard offhand in OTC shooting. Some folks find they can confidently shoot 600-yard prone too...

Rapids don't usually get fired this way only because the die-formed cases being FF'd can be kind of lumpy at the shoulder & don't always feed too well which makes for bad day at the range.

Yes, FF'd cases can be expected to be even more accurate. Depending on your FF loads it may take two or three firings to get cases that then stay consistent in shape.

Preacher - does your POA/POI not change? While I had considered used the "pre-formed" for prairie dogging, I had decided against for 2 reasons:
1. Theres a reason I went to an AI cartridge and
2. I figured POA/POI whould change substantially between my AI loads and my "parent" loads, so using a mix wouldn't be an option

Thanks - just gleaning knowledge here.

Yes, point of aim will be different, but I know the difference and only use the FF stuff under 300 yards... certainly wouldn't mix em up and rely on them at all.....
