DASHER DOME
Gold $$ Contributor
Terry Balding and Tom Stenback from Sun Prarie, Wisconsin were at the DOME on the way back from a IBS 600 yard Match in Florida at Manatee. They arrived at 3 on Sunday evening and shot Sunday and Monday. We started at 800 with Terry's Bat Model B, BRI which is his own spin-off of the BR case having less taper in the wall than the BRAI. Tom shot his Atlas 284 F-Class setup. Shayne was shooting his Panda F-Class EAGIE 6 mm Dasher. I was shooting my 700 TITANIUM 6 Dasher.
Over the two days 4 - 800 yard EGGS were broken.
Next we went to 1450 yards with the Remington 700 SS in 300 Edge. It was doing well but with the angle of the sun the splash was hard to see. So we moved to Rocky Top where afternoon shooting always has good splash visibility as we are shooting south.
Terry saw his first splash and every shot was close. A deer hunter had changed the position of my plate and took a few shots. Unfortunately the deer hunter did not move the plate back to the correct position for us at 2,080 yds. Terry only had a side view of the plate. So Tom and I got on the gator and took the 45 minute trip over to reposition the plate. By the time we got back up there the sun had dropped enough that the plate was in the shadows and Terry only saw the first splash. The next day I went over to the plate and he had hits right under the plate, very, very close. If Terry had been able to see his splash I feel certain he would have nailed it multiple times.

Always thought and convinced. Terry Balding is one of the most dynamic, experienced shooters in the nation.

Nice to see him shoot and miss for a change, even if it is a bit farther out than normal.

Birdog, I remember seeing your posts over on varmints den. I have not shot my rifles much I'm the last few years, lost my old passwords for here and varmints den, but I am getting back into shooting more. It's good to hear from you.
Do you guys still do the BBB shoot in the spring?

The BBB still is the second Saturday in May every year. I have not been in a few years. Did I meet you there before?? I might go back this May. More time now. Retired. How about you?

I never made it, but considered it many times, hopefully I can make it soon.
Congrats on the retirement, looks like you are keeping plenty busy. I backed off hunting and shooting alot with a job change and young kids a few years ago, the kids are old enough now at 8 and 11 to come with shooting and have some interest in it. I got sucked down an archery rabbit hole fairly hard the last few years as well haha. My screen name both here and varmints den was john800 in the past.
As far as the near future, I have the next 3 weeks to fill a muzzleloader deer tag locally so that is where I'll be this weekend.

I almost forgot: Do you have any pics or specs on the titanium Dasher? Sounds pretty interesting, those titanium 700 were not real common

My Titanium has a PTG bolt with M-1 extractor. I bought the action off Accurate Shooter. Noticeably lighter than a regular 700 Just holding one in each hand. The guy who fitted a barrel to it told me that it would not need truing. He thought that due to the expensive tools required to work on titanium, Remington farmed the actions out to S & W for manufacture.

Yes. I remember John800. I seldom go on Varmints Den anymore myself. Like you, I lost my handle of birdog on that site. I am Dasher DOME on Varmints Den but do seldom post there.
