Thermal is something new to me. I have obviously been aware of it for several years, but never took the plunge. I finally did and ended up getting the ATN Tico LTV 640 unit for the rifle and the Pulsar Axion Compact XG30 for a scanning device. I do like the image quality with the ATN Tico. I was a bit frustrated when I mounted it and took it out the first time. I expected, based on the advertising, this would be a unit I could mount and immediately go hunting with. No sight in required. This is not the case. There is a significant image shift when placing the TICO on the rail of a rifle or using the optional direct on scope mounting system. I requested a return to ATN under warranty. It was sent in and checked. It came back as being within spec. What ATN does not tell you clearly in the manual is that you have to adjust the image after you mount it using whatever method selected. I was hoping I would end up with a thermal unit I could swap between rifles using the optional direct scope mounting and have it retain zero. While it may work, I would have to test a lot more to be confident doing so.
For right now, it will be used on the AR-15 I have it mounted on. I do have the adjustment settings if I do want to move it to a second rifle.
