First String @1000 with big wind

First string at 1000 with the 7-6.5 prc w I’ve been working on. I know it’s not national record material but I’m pretty ecstatic how this went in some big, switchy wind. The 3 shots that went out were when it died down coming from the left. I just didn’t catch it with no flags where I practice, but I did learn quite a bit about mirage today. I’ve been shooting midrange with a 6br now there is a 1000 yard match opening in driving distance and I’m practicing up. A lot more goes on in that extra 400 yards. Prc-W, JGS no turn, Lapua brass, 180 Bergers, 40x action, 32” Brux. This stuff is habit forming.

Nice shooting..had you gotten centered up a bit better you would only have dropped 1 or 2 shots.
just a click high. Youl do well with your combo and a few more rounds down range.

The let ups kill me also. Nice shooting…

Here is the thing with that. I’ve not seen it before. This was the first string at 1000. I’m pretty new to the game and I’ve give up on trying to get a mentor or constant advice. I’ve offered to travel wherever and pay whatever anyways…. I’ve watched YouTube videos that no one agrees on the topic. I guess time and experience. I’m working my rear off trying to make a go of it. I was pretty stoked. Even if I didn’t see aerodynamic jump coming.

Would you mind expanding on this point ?

Supposedly if the wind is coming from 1 direction the spin of the bullet makes it track high. If it’s coming from the opposite direction it tracks low. I’ve not shot in enough wind yet to figure out which is which.

Right hand twist ; a wind from the left pushes a bullet down and right while a right hand wind pushes up or left.
I’m not familiar with aerodynamic jump but I’ve been caught over correcting for a left wind and got blown out from a let up.

It was from the left. All three shots that were out were during times the wind let up. My math ain’t mathing as to why they were also higher than the others.

also higher than the others.

They where higher due to your total group average being slightly high to begin with
You were holding slightly left and I take it they hit were you held but a little high
If you had clicked down slightly they may not all have broken out of the 10 ring

An easy way to remember this is "right will rise" and "left will go lower". From my SR benchrest days. Good shooting.

Constant 15-18 with stronger gusts 90° from the lefr. That’s why I was proud of it. That’s also why I wasn’t concerned that the group wasn’t perfectly centered. I was excited I stayed on target much less only dropping 3.
