First shot making 30BR brass, have a look.

It's nearly impossible to get a good photo, but I tried.

Peterson 6BR necked up on a PMA Mandral. Cases trimmed to 1.50".

Neck turned to .00935- .00945"s. My concern was not cutting into the neck / case junction. My old eyes with the aid of a magnifying glass would swear the outside donut that formed well above it.

So what do you think? Trimmed too far down? Not far enough?

Thanks guys!

If you use the correct angle cutter, it should just stop at the top of should slightly. A 30º will take the relief angle cut at the neck shoulder junction to reduce the donut build up after several firings. I would have turned it down a little further.

I moved the mandrel down .020. I did not change the depth of the cut. This is my result.

A .307 gauge pin slides in and out of the neck with minimal friction.
I would like to anneal them then neck size. Problem is only neck sizer is a Lee 308 collet. Can I use that die if I'm careful?
(One problem I see is the decapping pin is too big. Must be 4 LRP)

Your final result looks pretty nice....well done. :)

Now is a good time to seat a bullet and check the OTB (over the bullet) dimension. If you're happy with that and you're going to stress relieve them, do that next and then just run them into your f.l. bushing die before firing.

Good shootin' :) -Al

I currently do not own any 30BR dies. I had hoped I could send fired brass to Harrels to have a die made.
However to do that I would have to neck size the brass at a minimum.

So, I don't have equipment, or a system. Definitely could use some suggestions.
Thanks!

I do not cut into the shoulder. Mine look like your first set of pictures.

Cutting into the shoulder will not prevent the “dreaded“ o_O do-nut from forming. But I could care less about a do-nut in a 30BR because the bullets I shoot never get anywhere near where it forms.

^^^^^^^ This 100%.
