I like to take at least 3 centerfire rifles, a rimfire rifle and one handgun. When we first started going we took a lot more stuff than we do now. I pretty much take:
cooler with beverages of choice
sunscreen
ammo
bipods (tall and short)
cleaning equipment
ear protection both plugs and muffs
sling
holster and belt
shooting bags
portable bench and chair (no offensive to those who shoot off their hoods or box sides, but if someone was to shoot off of my aluminum scooped hood they would lose both testicles minimum).
We have taken food and cooking out equipment in the past. We always take too much food and end up wasting it. Now we usually just take snacks and sandwich meat we put in the cooler. After shooting all day; back at the hotel, everyone would rather just go get a steak than to drag out the grilling equipment.
Some items we share among the group. These are items that when everyone brings their own it just adds a lot of extra stuff or is in a spot where you can't get it when needed anyhow. The items include:
binoculars
cleaning rods (we all shoot 22,20, and 17"s)
cooler itself
cooking equipment when we took it
digital camera (I just leave one in the truck and anyone who wants to take a picture takes it and I give a copy of the file to each person to do with as they please.)
Everyone has different needs, after your first trip you will figure out what you need and what you don't.
