First match!

Gents
Is it alright to just be a club shooter?
I have a tough time balancing time and resources, being a Novice in my third year of 600 yard shooting I'm still learning and improving every time out and sure I would like to compete at 1K but does it have to be sanctioned to count on my man card?
Jim
So long as your having fun! What sanctioned matches do is make you better. They draw the best and the only way to get that good is to do it. Just depends on your goals. Men dont need approval or man cards! :D

Just jump in .... with both feet and you will always find many willing to help. If you get discouraged, just remember we were all there at one time. As time goes on you will definitely get better and pickup lots of skills such as load development, load consistency, wind reading etc. just remember (once you learn) to pass on as much as you can to a new shooter that is wanting to get involved. And always remember F class and BR shooting is just like golf, but with two balls!

Are all the Deep Creek matches sanctioned?

Tim, totally agree.
Shot 2 years before my first FTR match. Showed up and introduced myself to everyone and mentioned was my first match. Everyone offered any help I may need, answered a lot of questions and was very encouraging through out the day. Ended up winning my class and smiled the whole 3 hours back home and saying why did I wait so long. I have since passed on the same courtesy to others and new shooters. It is a good feeling to help and see smiles on others. Thanks to all those guys and the group that share their knowledge on this web site.

Yes, but they are no different then club matches other than rules are followed and results are sent in. Honestly feels like a laid back club match

Yup, I remember my first 600 yd HP match. I remember standing on the 600 yd berm looking at the targets and saying to myself “shoot it, Hell I can barely see it!” Been hooked ever since.

That's exactly what I said !
My first was with a hunting rifle and Walmart Ammo, shot a 57
next time with FGMM I won my class mid 70s. (Hooked)
Next season was a Varmint rifle with handloads averaging mid 80s I won again"
This year I've re barreled to 6BR now I'm shooting around low to mid 90s (the big boys shoot 95-100)

Washington is not far, come see us in March. Thats my favorite match of the year. If you dont have a gun we have one for you.

I wanna play too! Where in Washington? Never shot anything in a competition, but it sounds like fun. I just murdered some clay pigeons yesterday for the first time ever, and that was a lot of fun too.

Washington is not far from Missoula. www.mt1000yd.com Check our schedule after Jan. and see if you want to come shoot any of our matches. We have a rifle, rest, ammo, ext. for guys to try. Just have to let me know.

From having competed in several very competitive sports, rifle competition to me is truly the most competitive activity I've ever been involved with. This is especially true when I realized I wasn't so much in competition against everyone else on the line but truly in competition with my self.

Equally appealing about the sport is the selflessness of other competitors, helping others, sharing knowledge.
