First match of the year at Deep Creek

So we just finished up the first matches of the year. It was good to see everyone again, even if it was pretty miserable weather. Saturday had about the worst conditions of any match I have ever attended. After the front blew in Sunday it calmed down and dipped into the low 20's. But at least it wasnt windy. There were some great scores and groups shot.
Glen Kulzer and James Bradley both shot their first 100s, Tom Mousel put down an impressive 3.2" ten shot group with his BRA in HG, Leo looks like hes got it working with a nice 2" group in lg. I know there were a couple other 2 inchers shot in LG as well.
It was great to see the "club gun" get used for the first time. Josh Mahaffy from Bozeman shot the whole match. It was his first ever match experience and he managed a 5.5" group in HG. He picked up the whole process very quickly and by the second day needed no assistance at all.
JT Barber brought out another new straight pull action of his own design. He pulled off a 3" group in LG with a totally home built rifle.
We all got to play with the new Defiance elite and hear about a new Benchrest version. And looks like we will get a second generation of Lilja's shooting Deep Creek, Carson Lilja shot his 1000yd rifle very well and I am glad to see him and many other new faces this year. Turn out was great for this first cold match with low 20's in each class.

Tom you and I both got to work on getting that vertical out, I had two targets like that last year! When you get it figured out let me know.

I see that at this range often. Its happened to me many times. You can be in the X the whole sighter period. Targets drop and records go up and your low or high. I honestly don't believe its from a condition change. We have the record targets on a hanger, so after the last sighter you just hange the record over top and run it back up. I wonder if there is a slight angle change in the way the target is hanging which is reflecting the image slightly different? Its a very normal issue to have here and I would say the time between the last sighter and first record is less than 30 seconds.

Alex I've wondered about the light change from one target to the next, ours are one behind the other and I know there are so strange thing that happen from one target to the next.
I for one do not free recoil so I blame it on my shooting. I know if I slack off on my hold they go high!
Tom what shot was that, my low ones are usually the last shot. so might be something to that.

Great shooting guys!!! Some of those 1000 yard groups look like my 600's. Looking forward to seeing you all in August.
