First Match F-TR

XTR

F-TR obssessed shooting junkie
Couple of weeks ago my sons (11 and 9) shot in the Maine State Championships. They each shot one of the 2 days.

My 9yo’s first shot for record was an X.

I don’t know when they will want to do it again, but they have tried it.

I had my smith put an old Savage 223 on a chassis so I could shorten the LOP enough.

Excellent! Lets hope they want to come back for more.
I am saving up for my 2nd FTR rifle, my son will be using one of them hopefully.

Geez , Dad . You're creatin some more "Gun-Nuts" ? GOOD ON YA ! Keep up the good work . From the smiles , they didn't look to un-happy . And "Braggin Rights" with their peers won't hurt , either . Got to take my 12 yr. old Grandson to BA this spring on a 600 practice day . He shot my .308 TR rifle , and did quite respectable , with a 178 - 4X . He said one string was enough , as he was rubbing his shoulder , but grinning .

Good to see you getting your sons involved! Because they obviously have the "shooting genes" and will be expertly instructed, you only have a limited amount of time before they start whipping you in matches LOL. Until then, enjoy your brief superiority over them ;). Fortunately, I think you will enjoy and appreciate their future success even more than your own. Good post, Wade!

Very cool.

Got my oldest started at 13 and he's still doing FTR at 22. Younger one who is 19 started shooting SR 2 years ago. I am very fortunate both have stuck with the long days. Hopefully yours will as well.

We'll see. Hanging out with a bunch of adults and doing three 20 shot strings wore the younger out. His brother hung in there pretty well.

When they get a little older I'm planning to introduce them to SR too.

Great work Wade! Start them young but be careful not to wear them out!

This past weekend my 11yo competed in the Down East regional in ME.
He shot an 1145-31 (with his first cross fire  ) He even managed to be ahead of me at the end of day one. Fifth out of 9 shooters, not bad for his second time ever on the mat.

I take credit for the absolutely zero, zip, nada, no-load work, just load my 90VLD recipe bullets, the rest was all on him. (and Charlie at Nonesuch Precision built the Savage for me)
