First Ghog - 2016 Campaign

I couldn't resist, the weather was beautiful on Thursday so I took a drive out to the farms where I hunt ghogs. I wasn't planning on hunting since I don't like to shoot them this time of year for fear of taking a female that has nursing pups in the den. Nevertheless I took my Weatherby Supervarmint Master, just in case. ;)

I pulled into the first field and saw one out at about 250 yards next to a tree line. It ran into the tree line immediately. Ghog fever over took me so I set up and waited. Thirty minutes later I saw a head peaking out of the brush in the tree line. Ranged it as 254 yards. Several minutes later he came creeping out. It was small hog, probably a yearling so I figure it wasn't a nursing female. I placed the 223 on the shooting sticks. There was a fairly stiff cross wind. I tried to time the shot between gust and when I sent the 55 nosler BT it missed. The hog just froze and didn't move. I chambered another round and waited for the wind to ease. Squeezed off another round and he flipped over.

I walked out to check the kill, it was small male. Didn't see anymore hogs the rest of the day but enjoyed being out in the fields. Looking forward to the 2016 campaign. :)

PS: This Weatherby is the most accurate out of the box rifle I've ever owned. The trigger is outstanding and 1/4 moa groups are the norm with tailored handloads. It likes the 55 Nosler BT with H4895 and Federal 205M primers. The rifle has a 26" fluted barrel. I have it topped with a Leupold VX3, 4.5x14 scope.
