First ARA match

Yesterday I was able to attend my first ARA match. Was a great bunch of people there. Cliff Arnold of Arnold machine and tool insisted I try one of his one piece rest. I shot the first 2 cards with my bald eagle base, shadetree topper, and seb bigfoot rear bag. Shot the last two cards with cliffs rest. The scores i cannot blame on cliffs rest. I have never used a one piece before but cant imagine one being nicer. Used SK pistol match that has been grouping average about .22".

Wind was killer ecspecially in the last two cards, was all over the place and gusting.

Had a great time and can hardly wait till my next match.

Yep, good guys in ARA. I also have an Arnold rest.
If you're gonna play with the big boys you'll want to match equipment. A two piece leaves too much possible error to compete with one piece.
Come on to the triple crown !

Cliff was talking about the triple crown. I think cost may be more than i can reasonably afford. Ecspecially if it is more than a day.

You can learn more at the T/C in a couple of days than you will in a season of ARA. Well maybe not more but for sure a bunch. Our motel is cheap, worth the trip even if you don't shoot.

I just started shooting ARA myself, very challenging and the toughest scoring out there. A bulged line or lack of concentricity and down goes the score. Good shooting though...

Wind conditions were much worse than i expected. I need to learn a bit more patience. Yeah that is a tough target, i know my rifle is capable i just have to steer it.

I wish i could, but it is in Virginia? Wife would be pissed considering we are starting to remodel more and put up a garage. I'm good with that though my loading room is getting temperature control.

.

So did the one-piece feel like it would be an advantage given a fair chance?

This leaves me wondering how to be better with two pieces in the classes I have to use them.
Practice. I also shoot with a 2 piece at club matches. Front is a Randolph with silver top bag, back is edgewood. The rear fitting the stock shape is my biggest concern. Big fatty bunny ears don't work for me.

It came back to dead perfect after every shot, my two piece setup comes back nice but not that well. I think given a bit of time with it, yes it could be a huge advantage. For me on that day, i dont think it was set up exactly perfect and needed a few more adjustments.

Till i see my bald eagle base/shadtree top and seb bigfoot holding me back i think ill stay with what i have, besides i already am on the backorder list for a seb neo two rest this year arent in the cards.

FWIW it is not a huge advantage over a proper rest/bag.....maybe a little.
I am a big believer in learning to shoot with a fest/bag to learn proper gun handling.
I suppose if you’re only ever going to shoot ARA not huge, but still.
