First a temp at coyotes

Farmer that gave me permission to ground hog hunt last year called me today and asked what I knew about coyote hunting . Told him not much , but I did have a hand held electronic caller that had rabbit and coon pup stress calls .
He has been seeing them in the mid afternoon crossing a field right behind his house . There are some turkey houses on the adjoining prosperity and he is figuring they are going down there feeding on the dead turkey's .
About a mile as the crow flies his brother lives on another farm and there a couple weeks ago they had a cow attacked and her teet bag ripped just about off , and they lost her .
So he wants them gone .
Asking for help for a rookie , what do you figure would be a good plan ? i suggested a bait pile and two people , one operating a spot light and a shooter with a rifle and shot gun handy . Does this sound reasonable or is there a better plan ? Thanks , Kenneth

Where are you located? I have a friend with night vision equipment and electronic callers. He calls them in at night - usually whacks them when they are around 300 yards out.

First thing I would do is set up in the field behind his house mid-afternoon. Shoot where they cross.

Now they cross because one side is a den/bed area. The other side is for food. Get near one or the other and see if you can use that caller. Try different times of the morning/night and see if you can pattern them. Keep your eyes open for groundhog. Take all targets of opportunity.

Den area , that makes for another question . There was a couple ground hog holes last year of pretty good size , this year those holes are really big . You figure they are digging the groundhogs out or taking over for a den ? After thinking about it , I figure digging the ground hogs out cause it is in the open on top of a hill .
Years ago,I ran into a wild dog den and it was in a bluff along a heavily grown up creek side area really secluded .
Well guess I need to get my arse in gear and head over there . Thanks , Kenneth

Right now a pup distress call will work and take your dog with you if u can. Shoot the bitch first and the dog most likely will come back too her after the shot!

Give them a trifecta: audio, visual, olfactory. Create a scenario where competition is involved. You already know time of sightings. Get there in plenty time to set up and intercept. Get comfortable so you can be Very Still, in a position to bring gun up and fire quality shot quickly with minimal movement and no sound. Face and hands will give you away, so address that. Do Not go stomping around at night with buddy and spotlight. You will only smarten them up. Seymour

Details: buy a stuffed border collie at PetWhatever, place in contractor bag, pour in 1 bottle of coyote piss, seal tightly, place in full sun for 2 weeks. Meanwhile order a Rigomortis rabbit, bottle of rabbit piss, zonker rabbit strips from flytying outfit (go with white), cut some ears and glue on to the rigomortis (don't forget batteries), and douse with piss. Cue up a rabbit with his nuts in a vise tape. Speaker by rabbit, fake-news coyote in a sneaking pose 15 yes away. You will be busy very soon

Seriously. Never pay for a stuffed border collie.

Ok , took your advise , sat on my hands and put my head down so they wouldn't see my face , but never saw no coyotes . You think I should get another collie ?
Kenneth

Nope , thats why I was asking . Seems like every weekend here lately has been busy busy . Lucky to get some range time in , hopefully after this weekend I can get some time to give it a spin .
