First 6mm br woodchuck

I decided I didn't need another short pencil barreled .243 sitting around so I sent Dave Bruno a used 1979 700 BDL along with a #4 6mm 1-14" twist Wilson barrel to be assembled in 6mm br .272 nk .030 fb 24" long. RHB had that barrel on my steps in a week. Dave's work was just as fast. Pillar Bedded the sucker and slapped a jewel hvr and a 1981 10x Leupold fine duplex on it. With Lapua brass & br4's I worked up to 32.5grs of A2230 w 58gr vmax and I can touch holes with it no problem. Now I'm ready to watch those chuck holes this year. Got my first chance the other day. I think I'm gonna like this slow twist 6br for short range varmints. Stocked up on 58-65gr vmax and 60gr sierra hp. 150 yard headshot. Vmax hit em hard and about took his head off. Haven't had much time to work other loads but it's been a lot of fun so far. Thanks again to Dave Bruno and all the slow twist 6br info on this site. Great fun guys thanks.

Warning - it can become addictive. Nice shooting, very nice shooting. Farmers will love you.

For me, there is nothing quite like being a newly cut field with a big blue sky overhead, warm temperatures, an watching a tree line. Going out to tomorrow to check the fields to see if they have been cut - they are overdue for a cutting.

In two weeks, the soybeans will be up - going to go "hog wild".:rolleyes:

Today is a practice day, fine tuning my Weatherby Super V 223 Rem for tomorrow. I shoot those 50 Nosler BT's in this rifle, ridiculously accurate. :):) Too bad I am not as good as the rifle and load. :(

Take care and good hunting,

THE GROUND HOG MAN

Also have a 14 twist 6BR for varmints. I have settled on 8208 powder for all loads. I shot a lot of 58 gr. Hornady VMax because they shot decent groups, cheap and always available. My standard load is 33.3 gr of 8208. The 60 gr Sierra is amazing. As good as any custon match bullet I have shot. The groups are always smaller than the 58 GR VMax, but both get the job done.

Yes the 58gr vmax has been the only thing I could get at times. Sure wish sierra could get more stuff out.
