talk about moving a shoulder...

you could use a mini lathecand cut the brass first to a certain lenth to avoid moving the shoulder so much.. more of just create a new shoulder... but no reason to fit what aint broke... damn!

Very nice job, especially on a budget. Once you get hooked on how great the 30BR is and fun to shoot, then worry about new brass. Until then, use and enjoy what you have and do what you have to do to keep shooting!

you moved that shoulder- where's @fguffey when we need him?
I figured out what he's trying to say. I had to rent a few days time on the Tianhe-2 supercomputer to do it but it spat out an answer. "You can not push the shoulder back" just means "you are reforming the shoulder in a different location". o_O

Nice job, Ron! I like budget shooting like that.

i'm going to test the large primer in the 30br thing one day. I have a jam up 30br that shoots the lapua brass real nice and I got a metric ton of 308 brass of all flavors.

If I may ask what dies are needed to form the 308 down to 30BR. I have a lot of 308 but no 30br and I am thinking about ordering a 30br for one of my Savage actions.
I do have a 30br die set from CH4D, FL- seater - file trim.

Ron,

The 125gr Speer TNT's that i use to fireform my 30BR brass give exceptional performance for a factory bullet. You may want to give them a try once you shoot up all those 110 Hornadys.

Josh, I have tried the Speer 125gr TNTs, my groups were one inch or greater. If you don't mind sharing your data, I'd appreciate a good starting point. Mine was 29.5 - 31.0gr of H4198 jumped 0.020" with CCI 200's.

Sure thing Ron.

This is my fireform load for 30BR. I use it to fireform brass, break in new barrels, and get the scope dialed in on those new barrels.

The brass bretty much comes right off of the neck turner (cleaned up first), so the neck tension is pretty low. As such, I seat the bullets way long and let them push back into the case as I close the bolt.

Again, I am not actually going for precision ammo here, just makin' new brass.

That said, I am always pleasantly surprised at how well they shoot.

Sometimes I think that I should work up an actual load for matches with these bullets in case I ever run out of the customs I use, but then I just make myself sit down and start cutting cores for more bullets...

33.5gr 4198
Fed205 (not the 205m)

Because you started with 308 brass, you may have drastically different case volumes from 6BR brass, so please be careful going up in powder (you likely already new this but I would be irresponsible if I didnt mention it).

Also, because you are not working with brass with low neck tencsion, I would suggest a .325 bushing (assuming .010 neck wall) and seat them .030 off of the lands.

Best of luck!

Josh

Josh, thanks for the info. At 31.0gr of H4198 there were no signs of pressure. I may work up to 33.5gr because I would like to use this for varmint and small game. The 125's work very well in my 24" 10T barrel out to 200 yards (0.5 moa).

34.7 grains of H4198.....010 off.....cci 450 PR......125 TNT's, A tuner helps a lot !

Gentlemen, I discovered my RCBS 1500 made a grave error. The read out I was getting on my powder charge was incorrect. It was approximately 6.5 grains off, what I thought was 33.9gr turned out to be closer to 27.5gr of H4198 and I always let the 1500 warm up for at least one hour before using it. When I went to recharge my cases at 33.9gr, it was over flowing from the neck. So now I have to start all over, but I'm gonna start at 26.0gr and work up until I hit that sweet spot again. Now I'm going to start by using my old Lee powder charger then see what the 1500 has to say.
