Firing pin travel on 600 Remington

Is there a thing as having to much firing pin travel? (.298) On Remington 600.

I don't think that would be a problem on a hunting rifle.

I was thinking of shorting it to.240
Also I has a model 7 short Defiance action and it seams to have a longer travel also, like the Remington 600.

Do you have cock on close to eliminate?

On the Remington 600 Yes. 0.065
I haven't checked how much on the defiance.

So if you reduce the pinfall the .240, the cock on close becomes very manageable. Probably what the design intended.

What stops a striker when dry fired? The round head on the front of the striker bottoming out on inside of the bolt or the cocking peace bottoming out on the cutout on the bolt?

The shoulder on the front of the firing pin bottoms out in the bolt body.

So the gap from cocking peace to notch on the bolt in fire position always has a small gap? 0.080-.100 or more like .010-.040 or does it matter?

Yes it has to have a gap. It really doesn't mater what it measures. Using the shoulder on the firing pin and the bolt head as a stop means only two dimensions have to be correct.
