Let’s see if I can explain what is going on. Have a several year old Bat 3-L action and decided to replace the firing pin spring. Measured and replaced to the same distance. Loaded several rounds for the range to test some new loads. Had several “non-fires†from what I suspect is not enough force on the primers. All had a small dimple on the primer. Most went off, but 10% didn't. Took the firing pin out and gave it a ½ turn and re-installed. Pulled the bullets and dumped the powder and inserted the primed brass back into the action, pulled the trigger and “bangâ€. Nice deep impression in the primer. Noticed that the primer also backed out the brass slightly. Primers are CCI BR-2. Brand new lapua large primer .308 brass.
How do you know if the firing pin is set for the correct depth? Of course under the minimum depth there is no ignition of the primer.
