Firing Pin Protrusion

Should a 223 Remington have more firing pin protrusion than other common cartridges?

No. Standard protrusion is .050”-.060” on a bolt gun for all cartridges.

If you guys had one that protruded .065", would you trim .010" off of it or leave it alone?

You can do the math to decide how much you need. Do a primer indention test add a few thou more for head space and another .010" for good measure. Use a hard cup primer to do the test. In most cases .045" is enough, really small firing pins or very strong ignitions may need a little more. You want the firing pin to stop on the primer not the inside of the bolt. Too much robs actual firing pin fall.
