firing pin not cocking

i have a custom action and i LOVE it as well as the other two so i'm not knocking the product and my next build will be with the same action BUT this one does not cock the firing pin everytime i lift the bolt. the trigger is a jewell 1.5 oz. where is the problem? i wonder if the firing pin spring is a little light as russian primers have a microsec of hangfire...cci 450s don't. i do seat the russians deep. should i adjust the jewell? thanks.

Your trigger is not engaging the sear on the bolt properly. The firing pin is dropping as you close the bolt. Adjust the engagement so that it picks up the firing pin every time.

I agree, you need more sear engagement - try 3/4 turn on your adjustment screw. You can lighten your pull weight slightly afterwards if needed. Here's hoping you kept your instruction sheet! I can never remember which three screws do what without it...

You say it does not cock EVERY TIME. So it on occasion cocks?
After firing have you tried pushing the trigger FORWARD and then try to cock?

I had an issue with my Jewell where it wouldn't cock at all! Discovered that I had tapped the mounting pins into the action too far! Apparently, they were binding the trigger innards (#11 - block) and not letting the trigger reset.

Did it work at one time, or has it always done this?

This is a fairly common failure on the Jewell. It can result from getting gunk in the trigger.it can result from other things as well.

The Jewell likes to be clean. Ronco lighter fluid is the recommended cleaner. No on with a Jewell should be without it.

lighter fluid, absolutely every time i clean. the problem is solved as the engagement was too light. turned the #1 screw in just a little and VOILA! thanks again.
