Fires out west. Relative humidity is low

1754746603441.pngRelative humidity in western Colorado is very low this summer.

For example, in the area near this fire (Meeker CO) the daytime RH was 2% and overnight recovery was 8%.

As it relates to shooting sports, your powder will dry out very fast in the summer conditions here. If loading at the range, it can be very hard to keep up with.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon has been burning for awhile now, 132,000 acres so far and still going strong. It started with a lighting strike and could have been put out when it was only a few acres. But the U.S.F.S. decided to let it burn and it got out of control in the wind and very, very dry conditions. Dragon Bravo Fire

For allayas back east, you might not realize that it looks like this pretty much every summer out here. This is the current page from my "fire watch app" and for my area, it's much better than last year. I think that pretty much everything that could burn, did it last year. jd

The US Forest Service is notorious for making bad decisions here in New Mexico. That attitude has been very costly here for a number of years!

Steve, didn’t it get the historic cabins and lodge on the north side of the canyon too?

Canadian fires have been going nuts. All along the Great Lakes
we are getting hammered with the smoke. Some airlines have had
ground stops.

We had a fire just South of us a few years ago, started by the USFS. Prescribed burn when the wind forecast was for 20-30 mph wind with gusts even higher. Fire got away from them. Luckily, wind quit the next day and the fire crews got right on it. Think it only got about a section of land
Dry here on the Western Slope. Grandad would have said "dry as a popcorns fart" Front range and East have been getting a bit of rain but not on the Western side of the Rockies.

Over 70 structures including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge. Pretty much every structure on the North Rim. It's been burning for over a month now. I don't see how those government officials can keep their jobs after the millions of dollars they have wasted and the damage they have done. Lots of animals burned up with no where to run. It's mind boggling how inept they are.

Been in Utah 45 years now

Transplant from west PA in 1980

This is probably the worst summer locally I’ve seen for smoke/fires

Downwind from the Monroe Canyon fire…was a beautiful mountain

Smoke so bad you can taste it…no open windows at night for sure

Average summer relative humidity is 8-10% here at 6K’

Most recent fire is in the beautiful High Unitas west of Kings Peak @ 13500’

No rain in the forecast..our late summer monsoon rains just haven’t happened yet

Dry lightning fires are one thing….careless humans are another

I was up in Northern AZ a few weeks ago. Was about a hour straight south of grand canyon. The smoke cloud was unreal even that far away. Where we were was the driest ive seen it. Im up in that area a lot. Took a 3 hour cruise in the hills. First time i never saw one animal. No elk, no deer, no rabbits, granted every water hole we checked was empty also. Did see signs of elk, and at least they are still in the area. I got a desert muel deer tag this November. Got my hopes real low since here in my parts we have barly had a spit on. Im sure glad our governor pulled water away from our farmers here to make way for more housing. Dumb ass...

Just had a Forest fire within 1000 yds of my place
Evacuated
However I don't quite agree with their evacuation remaining in effect a full day after the fire has been put out.
Just went to try and get back home
(if anything to remove more guns from the possible danger, if there even is a real danger still present)
Yet they openly state (cops) they cannot MAKE you leave during mandatory evac.
So let me back in the same as if I never left?
Whats the problem
My choice

We all know what a great bang-up job Cartel Katie has done for us , don't we ? Still waiting to find out if Rubin gave back all that campaign cash he got from the Cartel .

Been smokey here in las vegas for days from fires in CA. At times it smells like smoke. Between the smoke and heat I am going stir crazy in the house.

I’m a couple hours east of 4 Corners. It’s been extremely dry around here, we had one night with rain about 10 days ago which is about all that we’ve really gotten. The only good thing, is that I haven’t had to mow!
