Fireforming with cream of wheat and had a huge problem!!!

I have found using a bar of soap or wax to plug the case works much better than tissue, as for the instant COW, I have never tried the instant stuff and I now know to avoid it, lol

260 Ackley Case Forming (6mmBR.com)

"After searching the web, very little concrete documentation relating to the actual details of the process was found, so I decided to put some effort into developing a safe and effective process. Based on what little info was available, I selected Unique pistol powder, a Winchester Large Rifle primer, regular (not instant) Cream of Wheat breakfast cereal as the inert filler material, and a dab of Crisco shortening at the top of the case mouth to hold it all in during the firing process."

So what's for breakfast today guys? (Sorry..couldn't resist!)

It's going to be a long time before I eat instant COW, LOL, I actually pored out the rest of the box on the ground yesterday, still aggravated at the whole experience!

On a good note I decided to go to a few local spots yesterday and got a couple PD's with the 20x47. I only saw maybe a dozen PD's the whole day, also the grass from last year is still a foot tall so I could only see them when standing or on top of their mounds. These same places had hundreds if not thousands of PD's years ago. I'm going to have to go to the Seligman area if I want to get any good PD hunting.

I don't know a thing about the 20x47 Lapua but I would assume it's just a neckdown process from the 6.5x47. I just wanted to ask what the COW fireforming is all about instead of just necking down, load, and shoot? Always trying to learn something new.
Thanks, Jason

I'm using a various trim/form dies based off the BR case, 6mm, 22 and 20 to form the brass down. I've set the dies so there is a snug fit in the chamber but after shooting the case the first time the shoulder comes forward .006" and out .005".

20x47 is a little hard on barrels so to save some barrel wear and extend life I used the COW method. I guess it depends on how much brass one intends to form also. If I were shooting cartridge with high barrel life I would have used bullets instead.

During the Viet Nam war they played old radio programs on the "FAR EAST RADIO NETWORK". As a joke they did a Quaker Puffed Grass commercial, the punch line was "you can tell Quaker Puffed Grass eaters by their green teeth", but remember kids don't smoke it. :o

I dont reccomend using cream of wheat or any kind of filler for fire form loads...I u'se Universal Clays (or something equal) and a 1/4 square of toilet paper stuffed in the case to hold the po'wder in place ,,,the charge wt is usually around 55% of t/otal case volume....tinker with it a lil and it will work fine....no slu'dge or riesidue to gu'm up the bbl or action....no mess....try; it ;you will like it..Roger
