Fireforming for a Dasher

For the first sizing after FF. Just adjust the fl die where is almost sizes all of the neck (0.005 from a true fl size). Shoot the brass again, you should feel some resistance when closing the bolt after the second firing. Then you can make a final adjustment on how far you want to push the shoulders back with the fl die. This is what I have done I the past. I shoot fclass and can shoot under 1/2 MOA easily.

I never change my die. it is set at .0015 set back at the shoulder. I anneal after FF. and trim and neck turn the second time. I full length size every time......... jim

I am using a hydrolic form die from hornady and love it. Gives me a shoulder to turn into as well.

If my current dasher didn't shoot so dam good while FFing, I would definately like to try this method. Some say it is a little messy, but..well, you should see my reloading bench. :-[

As far as loosing brass...I do loose one or two per 100, but that is just poor brass. They split at the sholder/body junction and don't fully blow. I am assuming that the split happens before they reach the PSI levels needed to blow the casses and the gasses just vent around the outside of the case. They also sound funny and hit about 5" low at 500.

Ya, they can shoot darn good while forming. I use a tight neck and wanted to have some kind of shoulder to turn to, thats the only reason I when with the hydrolic. Also if you use rubbing alchohol instead of water, it evaporates quick and doesnt rust your dies. I loose 1-2 per hundred with a split.

I'm not into worms either. Just fireform like you but with .035-.040" jams. That deep jam seems to hold the case back well. I use 29 grs. of Varget and get good cases.
