Am I at risk of loosing a lot of cases if I fire-form used Lapua brass?
I am contemplating my next 6mm varmint project. My current 14" twist 6BR has over 6,500 rounds and even though it's still punching 1s and 2s, I have rebarrel with at least a 12" twist to handle the longer non-toxic bullets for Califronia. I have 600 pieces of terrific Lapua Brass that has 10 or 11 firings each. I fully expected to get another 10-15+ firings (as I always did with my 6PPC Brass that was worked minimally due to custom sizing dies...just as I have with my 6BR). However, I was thinking about stepping up to a Dasher or 6 BRX for a little extra punch, but I have a feeling I could be at risk of losing a lot of cases. Maybe it would help if I anneal before fireforming?
I suppose I could find a gunsmith that has a Dasher or BRX fireforming barrel that could "test fireform" a dozed pieces of brass and see what happens.
Thanks! I don't have the disposable income I once did, and would rather not have to buy new Lapua brass just yet...also rather not have to buy new dies, which is where the BRX sounds attractive.
