Fired (modified) case???

I have a .2705 Neck on my dasher . If I make a chamber gauge off a fired case . It is too tight on the ID to work . I just turn the neck and fire form the case everything work then . Larry

I believe we're arguing semantics. You know your chamber neck dimension, it appears the OP does not. No harm in something to measure and then know without a doubt, is there?

Sorry if you think iam arguing I wasn't . What I was trying to say if you want the ID larger then make the OD thinner or smaller . When I do my case I turn the neck befor I fire forum it . Sorry for the mistake . Larry

No need for an apology from you, I chose too strong a word. I should have used 'discussing'. And I now see your point, and it's well taken. My point was, as it appears the OP does not know his neck dimension, I think it best to measure it before chosing his next step.
Sorry for any confusion on my part as well.

Neck clearance issues? Vertical from pressure spikes? You turning for .003 clearance?

Someone said when he made a case with-fire forum brass the Id of the neck was too tight to work
If you turn the od before it should give enough clearance to work . Larry

And then I get a phone call, seems the necks were toooo loose, this came as a shock to the builder of the bench rest type rifles. He has build many rifles without a complaint. I ask about accuracy but the complaint was not about accuracy, the question was about loose necks.

Anyhow I boxed up a bunch of dies and then made a shop call; we sorted through tons and tons of cases, we found enough once fired and pull down 30/06 LC cases and then started forming 308 W cases. After forming and trimming we managed .0025" clearance without turning the outside or reaming the inside of the necks, the builder was happy.

One of the easiest ways to make a mod case work is to expand it up a size, turn a healthy pass off it, then run it back through the right sizing die, not enough material to hold a bullet. These necks can be paper thin.

It's this about makeing a chamber case while using a fired case ? Larry

'It's this' or 'is this...?', I make transfers, I want to transfer the dimensions of the chamber to the seating die, the rational is lost on those that can not keep up. First there is no reason for a reloader to start over every day like he is waking up in a new world everyday. And then there is that part about learning how to zero his gages, a reloader that can zero a gage understands the difference between a gage and comparator.

He shouldn't I thought the question ask-was is it ok to make off a fired case and how it could be done .
I have one for every chamber I have . All are off a fully fired case . All are different Then of a un fired case . Larry

You are a legend! You should start your own forum with like minded and equally intelligent life forms. Oh crap, it'd be a one person gun forum.

You are a legend!

Thank you, if you have nothing to offer just say so, something like "I got nothing". You are luck there are not many members on this forum that can distinguish the difference between adults with child like behavior and socially functional adults.

Good one, now most of the forum members lack the necessary skills to ascertain whether I'm acting childish or if I'm socially functional, you're good, keep talking.

5/16-36.......Searching for that tap now. I knew these threads were an oddball. I just took 800 grit to my Hornaday case till I had the tension I wanted. But I do want a fired case. Thanks
