Fiochi SRP?

PopCharlie

I started with nothing. I still have some left.

Has anybody tried Fiochi small rifle primers? I've seen them at 2 different suppliers. $150 for a brick of 1500.

I still have plenty of Fiocchi Large Rifle that I bought from a UK importer back during the last period of components shortages a few years ago. (I hadn't realised they were sold in 1,500-ct boxes and ended up buying half as many again as I thought I was ordering!)

I've used a fair few Fiocchi SR and SP primers over the years too. They've been intermittently available here over the years - haven't seen or heard of any fresh supplies for several years now though. The SRs I had were old examples in faded battered sleeves, so I wouldn't have wished to judge them as being typical and didn't use them in any high-grade / precision loads. My examples (several hundreds) all went bang and MVs/ESs/SDs were acceptable and neither so poor or so good that they'd be regarded as exceptional in either direction.

Hmmm. Were did you find them in stock? At a store that takes credit cards?
Check the components in stock thread in the reloading section. Naknecker posted a link. I broke down and bought some. I’m at that point. They take Credit Cards and look legit.
Edit: My research found a thread on the High road forum from 2016. Guys were complaining about their $37/pound prices being high but some guys bought from them and got the goods. Same deal, different times.

Thanks to dfry for posting a link to Laurie's article. Thanks to Laurie for doing a comprehensive test. Very interesting read. I shoot .223, 6br and 6.5x47L. I have proven loads in my rifles I can use to compare the Fiocchi srp. Should be fun.

I have used Fiocchi SRP with success in my AR 15 ammo, goes bang every time. I was lucky to come into 4500 of them on a trade a while back.

The cup seems to be thinner than CCI41 why I am only using them for practice ammo at the moment. I have not seen any difference in accuracy compared to CCI41s.

@Laurie , I'm looking into appropriate primers available locally for use in a 6.5 Creedmoor SRP case (starline). I ignorantly bought cci400 due to being available here the cheapest as theee were mostly intended for practice.

However, seeing the results with fiocchi SRP, which are available locally here and cheaper than the CCI BR4 that are also available, I'm wondering on your thoughts for the fiocchi SRP being suitable for max loads in a 6.5 Creedmoor. My rifle is a Tikka, and reports on the firing pin protrusion and pin/hole clearance seem to be variable. For example, some folks shoot CCI 400 without issue and some have pierced primers. The protrusion measurements I've been able to find have ranges from 0.55 to 0.75. Mine is about 0.73 but the pin/hole clearance looks very tight. It seems that fiocchi may be worth a shot.

@Phys86 My limited experience with this primer is in heavy bullet 223 in a Savage PTA action which does see heavy cratering and 'blanking' with warm loads and soft primers. This is such that I would never consider using the weaker models in it. I can't recall any particular issues with Fiocchi SRPs and the lots I used were certainly not in the CCI-400 / Rem 6 1/2 class.

I have much more experience with the company's LR primer and is a 'tough number' indeed, also apparently slightly oversize as it takes a great deal of effort to seat it in new Lapua or Norma brass.
