fine x hair or target dot for f class

Don't know what conditions you shoot in, but I've found fine crosshairs or 1/8 MOA dots go missing when the re's mirage or glare about.

I agree with John but stick with the fine dot and cross hairs because I have not found a scope in my price range that works better.

I have the 8x32 in the moa2 reticle now. Indo think the dot is a little large. I think that the 10x50 fctd reticle 's dot is slightly smaller so I think that is whT I will go with

You'll find most shooters are using a dot/crosshair. It's a preference thing, but as John stated it can be hard to see the reticle when mirage is bad or during practice when daylight conditions are poor.

The situation would be slightly worse with the fine crosshair.

I haven't found a reticle with hashmarks on either side to "bracket" the target that I care for yet so I'm committed to the dot/crosshair.

I like dots but shoot both. I think the dot should be at least 1/4 minute and don't mind 1/2. If using a crosshair reticule, I like crosshairs which are a little heavier than most will prefer. For instance, I like the relatively heavy crosshairs in my old Weaver T-25 better than those in my Leupold 24X. If I'm shooting prone with a sling, I kind of like the dot better than crosshairs. Probably psychological but it just seems to steady down in the center better. WH

I used to have a Swarovski Z6 5-30 for hunting. When I started shooting F-TR I found that all the ash marks that helped determine range in hunting were detrimental. They just simply weren't needed (the distance is known) and they too often got in the way.

I decided to try a fine crosshair with a 1/8" dot and it worked wonderfully for me. I just use the target rings for holding. I liked it so much I bought a second one. But it really comes down to the type of shooting you're going to do. If you're planning on using tactical/hunting, then range aids make sense.

Regards,

Joe

I prefer fine cross hairs. Seems I can hold more precise and getter better sight picture of point of aim. I shoot 1000/600 fclass.

And if conditions allow, I leave scope cranked all the way up in power. Then can really get the shots tight in the X ring. Hard for me to get great scores if I can't tell where I'm aiming

Big +1. Sold off what Dot reticle scopes I had for the very reasons savageshooter86 enumerated. And I shoot strictly short distance but I found the dot was both distractive as well as something more useful in hunting than in precise target shooting. But that's my .02 worth.

I use the NightForce ATACR and NXS in MOAR-T reticles, its a finer version with thinner lines (.0625) than the MOAR reticles. ( .140 ) It's easier to see the tiny white center bullseye on the small diamonds on the Redfield Precision Sight In targets at 200 yards.

Work great !

I like floating dots but will be throwing my hat in the ring with fine crosshairs shortly as I intend on buying two Golden Eagle scopes, one with SCR reticle (fine crosshairs) and one ECR (floating dot), purely from an availability standpoint.

After going back and forth i plan on goingwith a fine cross hair. I too am going with a Golden Eagle something me this fall.
