Finally able to get out after some groundhogs, we have had allot of rain and they finally got some fields cut, was able to get out for a couple of hours in the afternoon I really wanted to try out my new 6AI on some longrange shots but the farthest one was only about 400 yrds.

shot this one a couple of weeks ago at 300 with 6AI 105 Amax

That 6AI can easily get to 1000 yards. But it is tough to see them and range them at that distance over flat ground. Looks fairly flat in the round bale photo. Western OH?

North East Ohio and its pretty flat and very hard to range a groundhog at least with my Ziess rangefinder, we usually walk the fields looking for dens and then range back to the truck or a tree.
Most fields are cut for silage so they rarely have any round bales to range that usually make it a bit easier when the bales are in the field.
In the bigger fields we usually shoot from the hogwagon

rich44,
I have the exact same hog wagon with the same shooting stand, except my stand has the butcher block top that I can set for either left or right handed shooting. I shot 5 hogs from my hog wagon last week down here in WV. How is your ground hog numbers in Ohio, we don't have near as many hogs here as we used to, everyone thinks it's coyotes killing them, I'm not so sure.

I would say they are way down IMO they have been steadily declining, I'm not sure as to why, one thing I have noticed is that one farm in particular have been planting more corn and wheat and less beans and alfalfa so it could also be we are just seeing less due to that.

The wagon sure makes it nice when we go for the day when it gets really hot or a light rain we just put the top up

I though I had a great groundhog shooting platform, but you've got me beat. I've shot 78 so far this season down here in central hilly Ohio.
