Finally got around to using my RCBS Chargemaster...

If you like the straw fix, you will love the brass fix. Goto the auto parts store and get a brass fitting for fuel lines. 5/16 line I think.. You will never use a straw agin.. Tommy Mc..

This is an old thread. I've had the Chargemaster for going on 2 years now. I'm not touching anything on it. The straw works perfectly. Hasn't thrown a bad charge yet. All have been perfect. So if it ain't broke, I ain't gonna fix it ;)

I have had a CM 7+ years. No problems and I do not upgrade software.
After initial set up correlated with a old 505 no difference with measured.
Recently picked up a very old M5, weights still track inside within tolerance of the scales.

I'm a new CM user and really like it. Loaded a bunch of rounds last week and never got a single overload. I use a Tripp-Lite line protector on mine. Amazon around $40.

Yeah every once in a while I'll do a 'quality control' check on the CM by comparing the thrown weight on my Gempro 250. They always match up with each other. Getting to where I check it less and less because it's always spot on.

Line conditioner, dryer sheets, let it warm up, keep it away from ac vent, and adjusting throw speeds. I live in FL so I keep a small dehumidifier running all the time. Cant hurt, it gets dumped daily, FWIW. Have fun.

I have a big 240V heater blowing air around in my reloading area to keep it warm during the winter (not directed at the bench), an extra overhead LED light and radio plugged into the same power strip so I can see better and listen to music while I'm hand loading. Never had any issues with inconsistencies due to interference with the Chargemaster. I highly doubt you will get any ill affects from a laptop on the bench.

The Chargemaster only measures down to +/- .1gr readings. Though it is actually much more accurate than that if you compare the thrown weights on a more sensitive scale. I always find accuracy to be within about +/- .04gr when compared to my GemPro 250 (that about +/- 2 short extruded powder kernels). If you were using something along the lines of a Prometheus, you may have to worry about interferences a bit because they are much more sensitive. But I've never found those expensive super accurate scales to be worth the money. If you accidentally add or short a kernel or two to a round, you aren't gonna be able to tell the difference if it even makes one. My Gempro 250 can sense the weight of one medium size extruded powder kernel or two to three smaller ball powder kernels. It does not make more accurate ammo than my Chargemaster. Thats why it now just sits there for verification from time to time.

I didn't know about it... Is it still a 1500gr scale or is it using the smaller 750? I'll have to check that out

I posted a link above. You can find a little more info on the bulletin here on this site. You have to scroll back to the shot show dates. Hope that helps.

Thanks. Doesn't look like it's built as well as the old model (maybe im wrong) yet the price is the same. I'm sure it would work well, but I personally wouldn't make the change. The touchscreen really isn't any advantage on a machine with such simple functions. Don't see any reason for a lighter model either. Both models have to mounted on a bench. Not like its something you pick up and carry around anyhow. Once its set up, thats usually where it stays. If a person's bench isn't strong enough to handle the weight of the original model, they probably shouldn't be building work benches. Lol

And the straw mod on the old model is such a simple fix that I never found it to be any sort of inconvenience. Literally takes 10 seconds and you don't every have to worry about it again...OK maybe 20 seconds with measuring the length and all.

I agree just lookin at it. Sometimes they make things worse when trying to improve. I think I'll wait and see what the feedback is.

That would definitely be the wiser thing to do. Hopefully it end's up being a great machine. Probably take a year or so before a decent amount of good quality reviews start flooding in
