File trim die

It doesn't seem possible for a trim die to be used in an arbor press since the top of the die needs to be exposed in order to file off the excess brass that is sticking out the top of the die with the arbor plunger sitting on top of it?

Dude, take a look at the video, ???

Sorry, I thought the video would help you grasp the concept of the Arbor press and it's function.
Good luck friend ;)

Hello nacchi.
Did not mean to offend .
I'm returning to rifle shooting after a 30 year absence .
Skeet shooting got in the way.
When I was shooting rifle previously I used an arbor press and straight line dies. I'm familiar with the process.
I lost/lent my file trim die and would like to replace it if possible

Hondo , Curious, would you care to explain what holds the die/case while you are trimming/filing, as I don't believe I've ever seen such a setup (just the threaded style).. Forster has their Case holders for trimming (which is clamped to the trimmer).

I have form/trim dies, all RCBS, I have two arbor presses, when using the arbor press to size cases the shell holder is installed into the arbor and the die is upside down on the bottom.

The answer to your question is ....no, they do not. There would be no reason to make one. Most shooters have presses, even if they use an arbor press to neck size, and seat bullets. If you were shooting benchrest using the arbor press and dies, you will find that today, the general practice is hotter loads than will work with that approach, and custom FL dies, that hardly move the brass at all. Arbor presses are still popular for bullet seating. If you are looking for a way to touch up length at the range, Possum Hollow makes a hand trimmer that indexes off of case shoulders. I have one, and although it will not replace my Wilson trimmer for work at home, It works well at the range. I used mine Monday, at the range, on a small set of 6PPC cases that I was using while tuning a rifle.

CJ6, I'm a retired machinist and no longer have access
to machinery. If my memory ? serves me right it was a
home made neck sizing die of right length for the case
I was loading at the time.
Any Little bit that was proud of the die was filed of.
The tension on the neck held the case in place.

Hondo, I have lots of old stuff, some of the old stuff for trimming case length did not have threads, the top was case hardened to a point it was claimed the top of the trim die was harder than a file, and that reminds me, I need to send a 30/06 trim/form die back to RCBS, the top is no longer square and is .040 thousands shorter than when it was made. Back in the earlier days case holders for the old case trimmers were made by those with a lathe and chamber reamers. I also have a few of those. Then there was the hammer in, then out type die.

fguffey case hardening is only a couple thau deep. I used to get my stuff carbonized and hardened which would be as much .125" deep depending on how long it was kept in hardening oven.

Hondo Check on ebay I have seen them there before.
Cant say for sure what brand but for some reason wilson comes to mind.
